Film studio Universal has announced that next-gen Bionic Commando developer GRIN will be creating a new game based on its recently released action film Wanted, based on a graphic novel series, to be published worldwide in late 2008 by Warner Bros. Interactive.

Universal says the third person action game will feature a number of the property's signature moves including its 'curved bullet' technique (pictured) and an 'assassin time' feature taken from the film. The storyline will continue where the film ended, adding a new chapter to the franchise.

The company also says the game will be executive produced by former Vivendi producer Pete Wanat, who has collaborated with the studio on a number of other film franchises including The Thing, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, and Scarface: The World is Yours.

The Wanted world focuses on main character Wesley Gibson, and his transformation from an "apathetic nobody" to an assassin with a "new life and new powers that he never knew existed." Universal notes that the film has earned $192 million worldwide since its June 27th release.

Said Wanat, "The team at GRIN has a proven track record of creating action games that push the envelope in terms of gameplay and combat. With the Wanted video game, GRIN is creating entirely new gameplay mechanics and an experience that pulls no punches. Gamers and fans of the film alike will be blown away by the ability to curve bullets, pull off amazing combat sequences and literally conduct a symphony orchestra of action with the arsenal available to the most powerful assassins in the world."
