Jeff Kaplan, lead designer of Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft, revealed that the MMORPG’s forthcoming achievement system will eventually contribute to an account holder’s “Blizzard Level,” a Gamerscore-like system which collects points from the developer’s other titles.

Speaking to consumer website MTV Multiplayer, Kaplan disclosed that the studio intends to implement Blizzard Accounts that will track and show achievements for each player from not only World of Warcraft, but other upcoming Blizzard titles, such as Diablo III and StarCraft II.

Once it has established its Blizzard Account system, the developer will switch to its Blizzard Level system: “Your WoW score would be just one factor that will go into your Blizzard Level. And rather than call it a ‘score,’ we just wanted it to be like you’re leveling up on Blizzard games," said Kaplan.

"You’ll have this Blizzard identity, and you’ll be able to see things like ‘Oh, this guy was great at Diablo III, but he never played Starcraft and he was mediocre in WoW.’"

Announced at this year’s E3 Media & Business Summit, World of Warcraft’s achievement system, which is set to debut with forthcoming expansion Wrath of the Lich King will cover over 500 individual achievements covering various aspects of gameplay. Some of those achievements will come with in-game rewards, such as tabards, vanity pets, and titles.

The World of Warcraft achievements will initially be character specific, but Blizzard hopes to add account-specific achievements to the game with Wrath of the Lich King’s first content patch.
