Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from August 19th, 2010, find Starcraft II and Madden NFL 11 heading multiplatform software sales in North America, while Another Century's Episode R premieres as a top seller in Japan.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

Nintendo Wii

North America: 1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo), 2. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 3. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 4. Gold's Gym Dance Workout (Ubisoft), 5. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo).

Japan: 1. Wii Party (Nintendo), 2. Dragon Quest Monsters: Battle Road Victory (Square Enix), 3. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 4. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo), 5. Sengoku Basara 3 (Capcom).

UK: 1. Just Dance (Ubisoft), 2. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo), 3. Dance on Broadway (Ubisoft), 4. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 5. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo).

Super Mario Galaxy 2 and New Super Mario Bros. Wii continue to lead the Wii charts in North America, as Gold's Gym Dance Workout ranks in at fourth place in its debut week.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Battle Road Victory returns to the Japanese Wii charts to claim second place, while Just Dance retakes the top sales spot in the UK.


Xbox 360

North America: 1. Madden NFL 11 (EA Sports), 2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 3. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 4. Call of Duty: World at War (Activision), 5. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (EA Games).

Japan: 1. Senko no Ronde DUO (G.Rev), 2. Monster Hunter Frontier Online: Beginner's Package (Capcom), 3. Mamoru-kun wa Norowarete Shimatta! (G.Rev), 4. DeathSmiles II (Cave), 5. Assassin's Creed II: Special Edition (Ubisoft).

UK: 1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 2. BioShock 2 (2K Games), 3. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 4. Mass Effect 2 (EA Games), 5. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (EA Games).

EA's Madden NFL 11 beats Modern Warfare 2 for the top Xbox 360 chart spot in the United States, as a price-dropped Call of Duty: World at War overtakes Bad Company 2 for fourth place.

G.Rev's shooters Senko no Ronde DUO and Mamoru-kun wa Norowarete Shimatta! see boosted sales in Japan following recent discounts at Amazon, as Modern Warfare 2 and BioShock 2 head this week's results in Europe.


PlayStation 3

North America: 1. Madden NFL 11 (EA Sports), 2. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 3. Final Fantasy XIII (Square Enix), 4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 5. God of War III (SCEA).

Japan: 1. A.C.E.: Another Century's Episode R (Banpresto), 2. Sengoku Basara 3 (Capcom), 3. Assassin's Creed II: Special Edition (Ubisoft), 4. Chou Jigen Game: Neptune - Limited Edition (Idea Factory), 5. Chou Jigen Game: Neptune (Idea Factory).

UK: 1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 2. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 3. Just Cause 2 (Square Enix), 4. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (EA Games), 5. Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days - Limited Edition (Square Enix).

Madden NFL 11 also leads the domestic PS3 charts this week, with Red Dead Redemption and Final Fantasy XIII trailing close behind.

The From Software-developed mech combat title A.C.E.: Another Century's Episode R leads software sales across all platforms in Japan this week, as both the regular and limited editions of Idea Factory's Chou Jigen Game: Neptune claim chart spots in the game's premiere week.


PC

North America: 1. StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty (Blizzard), 2. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 3. Microsoft Flight Simulator X (Microsoft), 4. Sid Meier's Civilization IV: The Complete Edition (2K Games), 5. Starcraft Battle Chest (Blizzard).

Japan: 1. Monster Hunter Frontier Online Season 7.0 Premium Package (Capcom), 2. Ragnarok Online RJC2010: Next Generation's Hero Vol. 2 (E Frontier), 3. Ragnarok Online RJC2010: Memorial Package (E Frontier), 4. Monster Hunter Frontier Online Season 8.0 Premium Package (Capcom), 5. The Sims 3 (EA Games).

UK: 1. Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty (Blizzard), 2. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 3. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (Blizzard), 4. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (EA Games), 5. Football Manager 2010 (Sega).

StarCraft II continues to dominate PC software sales in the U.S. and the UK, while the StarCraft Battle Chest compilation sees increased sales stateside.

The Sims 3 remains a strong seller in both regions, while Monster Hunter Frontier leads weekly sales results in Japan.


Nintendo DS

North America: 1. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo), 2. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo), 3. Chrono Trigger (Square Enix), 4. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies (Nintendo), 5. Pokemon SoulSilver Version (Nintendo).

Japan: 1. Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 3rd Story (Konami), 2. Fire Emblem: Shin Monshou no Nazo Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu (Nintendo), 3. Eigokoro Kyoushitsu DS (Nintendo), 4. Love Plus+ (Konami), 5. Tomodachi Collection (Nintendo).

UK: 1. Art Academy (Nintendo), 2. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies (Nintendo), 3. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo), 4. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo), 5. Professor Layton and Pandora's Box (Nintendo).

Chrono Trigger sees a surge in popularity in North America after a recent Amazon "Deal of the Day" price drop, surpassing Dragon Quest IX for third place in domestic Nintendo DS software sales.

Konami's dating sims Tokimeki Memorial Girls Side 3rd Story and Love Plus+ return to the top five in Japan, meanwhile, where they compete with Nintendo's latest Fire Emblem sequel and the art training tool Eigokoro Kyoushitsu DS in regional sales.


PlayStation Portable

North America: 1. Ys Seven: Limited Edition (Xseed), 2. God of War: Chains of Olympus (SCEA), 3. Dissidia Final Fantasy (Square Enix), 4. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (Square Enix), 5. Ys Seven (Xseed).

Japan: 1. Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X (Namco), 2. Corpse Party: Blood Covered - Repeated Fear (5pb), 3. Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2nd - Limited Edition (Sega), 4. Hanayaka Kana, Ware ga Ichizoku (Idea Factory), 5. Storm Lover (D3 Publisher).

UK: 1. FIFA 10 (EA Sports), 2. Lego Harry Potter (Warner Bros.), 3. Gran Turismo (SCEE), 4. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (Konami), 5. Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron (LucasArts).

Xseed's localization of Falcom's action-RPG Ys Seven premieres as this week's top PSP seller in North America, outselling longtime chart favorites God of War: Chains of Olympus, Dissidia Final Fantasy, and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

Namco's dungeon crawler Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X and 5pb's visual novel Corpse Party: Blood Covered - Repeated Fear head platform sales in Japan, while FIFA 10 and Lego Harry Potter lead the charts in Europe.
