Saling The World: Amazon Spurs Kinect Sales Stateside

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from July 7th, 2011, find Child of Eden, Kinect Sports, and Dance Central leading domestic multiplatform sales stateside, while L.A. Noire sees a successful debut week in Japan.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

Multiplatform
North America: 1. Child of Eden (Ubisoft, X360), 2. Kinect Sports (Microsoft, X360), 3. Dance Central (Microsoft, X360), 4. Wipeout: In the Zone (Microsoft, X360), 5. Your Shape: Fitness Evolved (Ubisoft, X360).

Japan: 1. L.A. Noire (Rockstar, PS3), 2. Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon (D3 Publisher, X360), 3. inFamous 2 (SCEI, PS3), 4. L.A. Noire (Rockstar, X360), 5. GoldenEye 007 (Nintendo, Wii).

UK: 1. Zumba Fitness (505 Games, Wii), 2. Dirt 3 (Codemasters, PS3), 3. Dirt 3 (Codemasters, X360), 4. L.A. Noire (Rockstar, PS3), 5. Mortal Kombat (Warner Bros, X360).

Child of Eden leads Amazon's multiplatform charts for the second week in a row thanks to an extended Kinect sale, which also puts Kinect Sports and Dance Central in this week's domestic top five.

L.A. Noire is off to a fast-selling start in its debut week in Japan, meanwhile, as a price-dropped Dirt 3 competes with reigning chart champ Zumba Fitness in the UK.


Nintendo Wii
North America: 1. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft), 2. Epic Mickey (Disney), 3. Zumba Fitness (Majesco), 4. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 5. Mystery Case Files: The Malgrave Incident (Nintendo).

Japan: 1. GoldenEye 007 (Nintendo), 2. Wii Remote Plus Variety Pack (Nintendo), 3. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 4. Billy's Boot Camp: Wii de Enjoy Diet! (Rocket Company), 5. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo).

UK: 1. Zumba Fitness (505 Games), 2. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 3. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean (Disney), 4. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft), 5. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo).

Just Dance 2 spends its third week atop the Wii charts in North America, as Nintendo's accessory-bundled Wii Remote Plus Variety Pack (Wii Play Motion) trails the recently released GoldenEye 007 in Japan.


Xbox 360
North America: 1. Child of Eden (Ubisoft), 2. Kinect Sports (Microsoft), 3. Dance Central (Microsoft), 4. Wipeout: In the Zone (Microsoft), 5. Your Shape: Fitness Evolved (Ubisoft).

Japan: 1. Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon (D3 Publisher), 2. L.A. Noire (Rockstar), 3. Test Drive Unlimited 2 (Cyber Front), 4. Steins;Gate: Hiyoku Renri no Darling (5pb), 5. Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (Capcom).

UK: 1. Dirt 3 (Codemasters), 2. Mortal Kombat (Warner Bros), 3. L.A. Noire (Rockstar), 4. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 5. Your Shape: Fitness Evolved (Ubisoft).

As Kinect titles take over the domestic charts, D3's Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon outsells L.A. Noire in its first week of release in Japan.


PlayStation 3
North America: 1. Mortal Kombat (Warner Bros), 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 3. inFamous 2 (SCEA), 4. Alice: Madness Returns (EA Games), 5. L.A. Noire (Rockstar).

Japan: 1. L.A. Noire (Rockstar), 2. inFamous 2 (SCEI), 3. Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon (D3 Publisher), 4. Meruru no Atelier (Gust), 5. Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (Capcom).

UK: 1. Dirt 3 (Codemasters), 2. L.A. Noire (Rockstar), 3. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 4. inFamous 2 (SCEE), 5. Virtua Tennis 4 (Sega).

Mortal Kombat heads PlayStation 3 software sales for the third week in a row stateside, while newcomers L.A. Noire and inFamous 2 lead regional results in Japan.


PC
North America: 1. Sid Meier's Civilization V (2K Games), 2. Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty (Blizzard), 3. The Sims 3: Generations (EA Games), 4. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm (Blizzard), 5. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (EA Games).

Japan: 1. Ragnarok Online RJC2011 (E Frontier), 2. Rewrite (Key), 3. Steins;Gate (Nitro Plus), 4. Final Fantasy XIV (Square Enix), 5. Alice in Nightmare (EA Games).

UK: 1. Portal 2 (Valve), 2. The Sims 3: Generations (EA Games), 3. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 4. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm (Blizzard), 5. Total War: Shogun 2 (Sega).

Civilization V tops U.S. PC sales during a limited-time round of discounts at Amazon, as Portal 2 maintains its sales lead in Europe.


Nintendo 3DS
North America: 1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (Nintendo), 2. Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition (Capcom), 3. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (Capcom), 4. Pilotwings Resort (Nintendo), 5. Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (LucasArts).

Japan: 1. Zelda no Densetsu: Toki no Ocarina 3D (Nintendo), 2. Ken to Mahou to Gakuen Mono. 3D (Acquire), 3. Tales of the Abyss (Namco Bandai), 4. One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP (Namco Bandai), 5. Biohazard: The Mercenaries 3D (Capcom).

UK: 1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (Nintendo), 2. Pilotwings Resort (Nintendo), 3. Nintendogs + Cats: Golden Retriever & New Friends (Nintendo), 4. Rabbids 3D (Ubisoft), 5. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean (Disney).

As Nintendo's Ocarina of Time 3D once again outsells all competition in all three regions, Acquire's Class of Heroes sequel Ken to Mahou to Gakuen Mono. 3D captures second place in Japan following a recent successful debut.

North America: 1. Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs (Nintendo), 2. Phineas and Ferb (Disney), 3. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo), 4. Pokemon White Version (Nintendo), 5. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo).

Japan: 1. Tennis no Oji-Sama Gyutto! Dokidoki Survival Umi to Yama no Love Passion (Konami), 2. Pocket Monsters Black (Nintendo), 3. Pocket Monsters White (Nintendo), 4. Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2: Professional (Square Enix), 5. Love Plus+ (Konami).

UK: 1. Let's Draw! (Majesco), 2. Pokemon White Version (Nintendo), 3. Art Academy (Nintendo), 4. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo), 5. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean (Disney).

A price-dropped Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs claims the top DS chart spot stateside, while in Japan, Konami's manga-based Tennis no Oji-Sama Gyutto! Dokidoki Survival Umi to Yama no Love Passion continues to lead over Pokemon Black and White.


PlayStation Portable
North America: 1. Need for Speed: Most Wanted (EA Games), 2. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (Square Enix), 3. Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep (Square Enix), 4. Justice League Heroes (Eidos), 5. God of War: Ghost of Sparta (SCEA).

Japan: 1. Steins;Gate (Kadokawa Shoten), 2. Danbouru Senki (Level 5), 3. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (Capcom), 4. ToHeart 2: Dungeon Travelers (Aqua Plus), 5. Steins;Gate - Limited Edition (Kadokawa Shoten).

UK: 1. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean (Disney), 2. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (Rockstar), 3. FIFA 10 (EA Sports), 4. Football Manager Handheld 2011 (Sega), 5. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (Rockstar).

ToHeart 2: Dungeon Travelers sees a slight drop in popularity after a strong debut last week in Japan, as Kadokawa Shoten's Steins;Gate fends off competition from Level 5's Danbouru Senki.
