Smartphone, Tablet Sales Lead To Q2 Growth For Gameloft

Smartphone, Tablet Sales Lead To Q2 Growth For Gameloft

August 1, 2011 | By Frank Cifaldi

Prolific mobile game publisher Gameloft (Order & Chaos Online, Starfront: Collision) reported 37.4 million euro (around $53.3 million) in sales for its second fiscal quarter, an increase of 11 percent over the 33.6 million euro ($47.9 million) it reported last year.

The quarter contributed to an overall 15 percent growth for the first half of its fiscal year, driven by sales in emerging countries and growth in the smartphone and tablet markets: according to the company, smartphone and tablet game sales were up 55 percent year-on-year, and represented 30 percent of the company's total sales.

"The dynamism of the smartphone and tablet market should continue sustaining Gameloft's growth in the upcoming quarters," the company said in a statement. "Additionally, the release of new gaming platforms, such as social networks, smart TVs and next-generation set-top boxes provides the company with strong growth opportunities."

For the quarter, Europe represented 33 percent of the company's quarterly sales, North America 28 percent, and the rest of the world 39 percent.

The company's consolidated results will be published at the end of this month. It has not yet released any profit info.

Gameloft recently announced that it had surpassed 200 million downloads on Apple's App Store.
