Sony Brings Back 99 Cent PSN Video Rentals in U.S., Canada

Sony Brings Back 99 Cent PSN Video Rentals in U.S., Canada

August 16, 2011 | By Kyle Orland

Sony has reintroduced a program offering select PlayStation Network movies and TV shows for rental starting at 99 cents, promising a rotating selection of discounted rental titles every week for U.S. and Canadian customers.

A selection of 12 titles are now available for rental at $0.99 for standard definition and $1.99 for high definition quality, down from regular rental prices of $2.99 for SD and $4.50 for HD. Discounted rentals will be returned to regular price and replaced with new selections every Tuesday, Sony said.

The sale program returns after a limited test in July, which saw reduced price rentals for titles such as Saw, Crank, Pi and Employee of the Month.

PSN users have 14 days after download to begin a rented video, and can watch that video as much as they want for the following 24 hours.

Since first offering the video download service in July 2008, Sony has expanded its PSN video store to a library of over 31,000 downloadable movies and TV shows viewable on the PS3 or PSP.
