Saling The World: Gears of War 3 Tops Charts in U.S. and UK

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from September 22nd, 2011, find Gears of War 3 and Zumba Fitness heading domestic multiplatform sales, while Dark Souls and ICO/Shadow of the Colossus top the charts in Japan.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

Multiplatform
North America: 1. Gears of War 3 (Microsoft, X360), 2. Zumba Fitness (Majesco, Wii), 3. Test Drive Unlimited 2 - Download Edition (Atari), 4. Dead Island (Deep Silver, X360), 5. Madden NFL 12 (EA Sports, X360).

Japan: 1. Dark Souls (From Software, PS3), 2. ICO/Wanda to Kyozou Limited Box (SCEI, PS3), 3. Gears of War 3 (Microsoft, X360), 4. Dark Souls - Limited Edition (From Software, PS3), 5. Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Tag Force 6 (Konami, PSP).

UK: 1. Gears of War 3 (Microsoft, X360), 2. Zumba Fitness (505 Games, Wii), 3. Dead Island (Deep Silver, X360), 4. Michael Jackson: The Experience (Ubisoft, Wii), 5. Dead Island (Deep Silver, PS3).

Epic's Gears of War 3 leads as today's top-selling title across all platforms in North America, while a steep price drop puts Test Drive Unlimited 2 behind Zumba Fitness at third place.

From Software's Demon's Souls follow-up Dark Souls and an ICO/Shadow of the Colossus remake package leads the week's results in Japan, while Gears of War 3 beats Zumba Fitness in the UK.


Nintendo Wii
North America: 1. Zumba Fitness (Majesco), 2. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft), 3. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 4. Wii Fit Plus With Balance Board (Nintendo), 5. Michael Jackson: The Experience (Ubisoft).

Japan: 1. Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Collection (Square Enix), 2. Minna no Rhythm Tengoku (Nintendo), 3. Family Fishing Bundle (Namco Bandai), 4. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), 5. Wii Remote Plus Variety Pack (Nintendo).

UK: 1. Zumba Fitness (505 Games), 2. Michael Jackson: The Experience (Ubisoft), 3. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft), 4. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 5. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean (Disney).

Zumba Fitness overtakes Just Dance 2 for the top Wii chart spot stateside, while Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Collection and Minna no Rhythm Tengoku remain the platform's biggest sellers in Japan.


Xbox 360
North America: 1. Gears of War 3 (Microsoft), 2. Dead Island (Deep Silver), 3. Madden NFL 12 (EA Sports), 4. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 5. Halo Reach (Microsoft).

Japan: 1. Gears of War 3 (Microsoft), 2. Gears of War 3 - Limited Edition (Microsoft), 3. Gears of War Twin Pack (Microsoft), 4. Monster Hunter Frontier Online Anniversary 2011 Premium Package (Capcom), 5. Steins;Gate: Hiyoku Renri no Darling (5pb).

UK: 1. Gears of War 3 (Microsoft), 2. Dead Island (Deep Silver), 3. Halo Reach (Microsoft), 4. Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Limited Edition (Square Enix), 5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision).

Gears of War 3 heads Xbox 360 software sales in all regions this week. Dead Island continues to report strong sales stateside and in the UK, while in Japan, the Gears of War Twin Pack overtakes Steins;Gate: Hiyoku Renri no Darling and Monster Hunter Frontier Online.

North America: 1. Madden NFL 12 (EA Sports), 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 3. Resistance 3 (SCEA), 4. Mortal Kombat (Warner Bros), 5. Dead Island (Deep Silver).

Japan: 1. Dark Souls (From Software), 2. ICO/Wanda to Kyozou Limited Box (SCEI), 3. Dark Souls - Limited Edition (From Software), 4. Tales of Xillia (Namco Bandai), 5. Wanda to Kyozou (SCEI).

Madden NFL 12 and Call of Duty: Black Ops once again lead domestic PS3 sales as Dead Island and Deus Ex: Human Revolution lead over a budget-priced reissue of Gran Turismo 5 in Europe.

A day-long promotional sale puts a downloadable version of Test Drive Unlimited 2 at the top of North America's PC sales charts, while Blizzard's Starcraft Battle Chest and the Warcraft III Battle Chest also see strong sales thanks to recent Amazon price drops.

Star Fox 64 3D continues to rank behind The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D in the domestic 3DS charts, while Marvelous' platformer Senran Kagura: Shoujotachi no Shinei outsells all competition in its premiere week in Japan.

Kirby Mass Attack enjoys a successful debut week stateside, outselling a price-dropped Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades and Natsume's recently released Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII climb back up to the top of the PSP charts in the United States, while Konami's latest Y-Gi-Oh! title and a pair of entries in Broccoli's Uta no * Prince-Sama series see big sales in Japan.
