Call Of Duty Elite Hits 1M Paid Subscribers In Six Days

November 22, 2011 | By Mike Rose

Activision revealed today that it has already sold over 1 million premium memberships for its Call of Duty Elite service, despite the issues that have plagued the service since its launch.

This figure was reached just six days after the Elite service launched on November 8 alongside the console launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Activision noted that, in comparison, the likes of Netflix, Hulu Plus and Xbox Live all took around a year to achieve 1 million paid subscribers for their services.

However, there have been issues with Elite since its launch, and the PC version of the service is yet to launch. Activision stated earlier this week that it is looking to have everything running smoothly by December 1.

Bobby Kotick, CEO for Activision Blizzard, explained of the milestone, "The audience response to Call of Duty Elite's premium service has been beyond our expectations, and we want to thank Call of Duty players around the world for their unprecedented enthusiasm.

"The number of gamers who have registered for Call of Duty Elite further illustrates how this service is poised to redefine social gaming and set a new bar for interactive entertainment."

Eric Hirshberg, Activision Publishing CEO, also revealed that, as a means of apologizing for the problems with the service, all premium subscribers who have already picked up a subscription will receive an additional 30 days to their sub for free.
