Top-Grossing iOS Games: Minecraft: Pocket Edition Reports Fast Sales For iPhone, iPad

November 23, 2011 | By Danny Cowan

Every week, Gamasutra rounds up the top-grossing iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad applications, as current that day in the iTunes App Store. This week's U.S. revenue charts see Minecraft: Pocket Edition and Amazing Breaker earning top iPhone sales, while Battle Nations and Smurfs' Village emerge as big sellers on the iPad.

These charts allow end users to see who is making the most money on the App Store that day. It differs significantly from the Top 10 Games chart, which is ranked by sales, and therefore is dominated by lower-priced titles that sell more copies.

Data comes courtesy of Apple's public sales information. All titles in the App Store's "Games" category are considered in chart rankings.

This week's top-grossing iPhone titles are:

1. Poker by Zynga (Free)
2. Minecraft: Pocket Edition ($6.99)
3. Amazing Breaker ($0.99)
4. DragonVale (Free)
5. Smurfs' Village (Free)
6. Flick Home Run ($0.99)
7. Angry Birds ($0.99)
8. Blood & Glory (Free)
9. Tap Pet Hotel (Free)
10. Crime City (Free)

Poker by Zynga remains the App Store's highest-grossing iPhone app for the second week in a row, while Mojang's recently released Minecraft: Pocket Edition and Dekovir's top-selling Amazing Breaker trail at second and third place.

Last week's second-place title Flick Home Run falls to sixth place in today's rankings, meanwhile, as Capcom's Smurfs' Village returns to the charts to challenge Backflip Studios' DragonVale at fifth.

Here are this weeks top-grossing iPad applications:

1. Smurfs' Village (Free)
2. Battle Nations (Free)
3. DragonVale (Free)
4. Tap Pet Hotel (Free)
5. Angry Birds HD ($4.99)
6. Blood & Glory (Free)
7. Minecraft: Pocket Edition ($6.99)
8. Poker by Zynga (Free)
9. Tiny Zoo Friends (Free)
10. The Oregon Trail: American Settler (Free)

Z2Live's social action-strategy game Battle Nations takes second place in the iPad's revenue chart in its premiere week, overtaking DragonVale and approaching reigning microtransaction sales leader Smurfs' Village.

Glu's brawler Blood & Glory claims sixth in today's rankings, while Gameloft's recently released city-building sim The Oregon Trail: American Settler finishes at tenth place.
