Saling the World: Zumba Fitness, Your Shape climb U.S. charts

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from January 12th, 2012, find Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012 and Zumba Fitness leading domestic multiplatform sales, while Monster Hunter 3G and Mario Kart 7 remain big sellers in Japan.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

Multiplatform
North America: 1. Just Dance 3 (Ubisoft, Wii), 2. Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 (Ubisoft, X360), 3. Sid Meier's Civilization V - Download Edition (2K Games, PC), 4. Zumba Fitness (Majesco, Wii), 5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Activision, X360).

Japan: 1. Mario Kart 7 (Nintendo, 3DS), 2. Monster Hunter 3G (Capcom, 3DS), 3. Super Mario 3D Land (Nintendo, 3DS), 4. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Bethesda, X360), 5. AKB1/48: Idol to Guam de Koishitara... - Special Edition (Namco Bandai, PSP).

UK: 1. Zumba Fitness (505 Games, Wii), 2. Just Dance 3 - Special Edition (Ubisoft, Wii), 3. Zumba Fitness 2 (505 Games, Wii), 4. Saints Row The Third (THQ, X360), 5. Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 (Ubisoft, X360).

Dancing and fitness titles lead the domestic and UK multiplatform sales charts, with Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 and Majesco's Zumba Fitness games emerging as popular favorites in the first weeks of 2012.

Mario Kart 7 tops the week's rankings in Japan, meanwhile, as a recent Amazon sale puts a downloadable version of Civilization V among North America's biggest sellers.

Japan: 1. Hoshi no Kirby Wii (Nintendo), 2. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), 3. Go Vacation (Bandai Namco), 4. Zelda no Densetsu: Skyward Sword (Nintendo), 5. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo).

UK: 1. Zumba Fitness (505 Games), 2. Just Dance 3 - Special Edition (Ubisoft), 3. Zumba Fitness 2 (505 Games), 4. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft), 5. Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games (Sega).

Zumba Fitness overtakes longtime Wii chart leader Just Dance 3 in the UK. Kirby's Return to Dreamland heads platform sales in Japan, while Just Dance 3 keeps the top spot stateside.


Xbox 360

Japan: 1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Bethesda), 2. Alice: Madness Returns (EA Games), 3. MuvLuv Twin Pack (5pb), 4. Kinect Disneyland Adventures (Microsoft), 5. Musou Orochi 2 (Koei).

UK: 1. Saints Row The Third (THQ), 2. Battlefield 3 (EA Games), 3. Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 (Ubisoft), 4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Activision), 5. FIFA 12 (EA Sports).

Ubisoft's Kinect-powered exercise title Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 leads Xbox 360 sales stateside, overtaking former chart champion Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim remains a fast seller in Japan, while a price drop puts Saints Row The Third at the top of the charts in Europe.


PlayStation 3
North America: 1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Activision), 2. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (SCEA), 3. NBA 2K12 (2K Sports), 4. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Bethesda), 5. FIFA Soccer 12 (EA Sports).

Japan: 1. Musou Orochi 2 (Koei), 2. Kidou Senshi Gundam: Extreme VS (Namco Bandai), 3. Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Square Enix), 4. L.A. Noire (Rockstar), 5. Battlefield 3 (EA Games).

UK: 1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Activision), 2. FIFA 12 (EA Sports), 3. Battlefield 3 (EA Games), 4. Saints Row The Third (THQ), 5. Need for Speed: The Run (EA Games).

NBA 2K12 reports a surge in sales this week in North America, putting it in close competition with top sellers Modern Warfare 3 and Uncharted 3. Koei's Dynasty Warriors spinoff Musou Orochi 2 and Gundam: Extreme VS overtake Final Fantasy XIII-2 in Japan, while FIFA 12 and Modern Warfare 3 capture the top two chart spots in the UK.

North America: 1. Sid Meier's Civilization V - Download Edition (2K Games), 2. Star Wars: The Old Republic (EA Games), 3. Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Complete - Download Edition (2K Games), 4. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Bethesda), 5. Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Download Edition (Square Enix).

Japan: 1. Battlefield 3 (EA Games), 2. Ragnarok Online RJC2011: Process to the Hero Vol 2 (E Frontier), 3. Ragnarok Online RJC2011: Process to the Hero Vol 1 (E Frontier), 4. fripSide PC Game Compilation Vol.1 (fripSide), 5. RPG Tsukuru VX Ace (Kadokawa Games).

Civilization IV and V rank among North America's top PC sellers during a round of price drops at Amazon, as BioWare's MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic and Sega's soccer team management sim Football Manager 2012 lead the week's results in the UK.

North America: 1. Mario Kart 7 (Nintendo), 2. Super Mario 3D Land (Nintendo), 3. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (Nintendo), 4. Nintendogs + Cats: Golden Retriever and New Friends (Nintendo), 5. Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition (Capcom).

Japan: 1. Mario Kart 7 (Nintendo), 2. Monster Hunter 3G (Capcom), 3. Super Mario 3D Land (Nintendo), 4. Shinrei Camera: Tsuiteru Techou (Nintendo), 5. Ace Combat 3D Cross Rumble (Bandai Namco).

UK: 1. Mario Kart 7 (Nintendo), 2. Super Mario 3D Land (Nintendo), 3. Tales of the Abyss (Namco Bandai), 4. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean (Disney), 5. Ridge Racer 3D (Namco Bandai).

Mario Kart 7 continues to dominate 3DS platform sales worldwide, leading over other big sellers like Super Mario 3D Land and Monster Hunter 3G.

The Nintendo-published Fatal Frame spinoff Shinrei Camera: Tsuiteru Techou reports fast sales in its premiere week in Japan, meanwhile, as a port of Namco's PlayStation 2 RPG Tales of the Abyss takes third place in the UK charts.


PlayStation Vita
Japan: 1. Minna no Golf 6 (SCEI), 2. Uncharted: Chizu no Bouken no Hajimari (SCEI), 3. Lord of Apocalypse (Square Enix), 4. Dream C Club Zero Portable (D3 Publisher), 5. Power Smash 4 (Sega).

Sony's Hot Shots Golf 6 and Uncharted: Golden Abyss rank as the PlayStation Vita's biggest sellers in the platform's first month of release in Japan. Access Games' Lord of Arcana sequel Lord of Apocalypse also sees brisk sales this week, as D3's hostess sim Dream C Club Zero Portable and Sega's Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour round out the top five.
