Under Zynga, Draw Something continues rise up Facebook charts

March 28, 2012 | By Eric Caoili

[Every other week, Gamasutra examines the most popular Facebook games according to monthly active users, looking at the top titles and developers on the social network to see who's attracting or losing players.]

A lot has changed for the Facebook version of Draw Something in the last two weeks -- the big one of course being Zynga's purchase of the mobile/social game's maker Omgpop in a reported $210 million deal.

It's also gained 15.6 million monthly active users during that time, more than doubling its total audience to 28.5 million players. That makes it the fourth most popular game on Facebook -- though it's still easily the most popular according to daily active users (14.6 million).

Ahead of Draw Something are three other Zynga releases: CityVille at the top with 44.9 million users (down from 46.6 million two weeks ago), then Texas Holdem Poker with 35 million (up from 33.9 million), and Hidden Chronicles with 29.6 million (down from 30.8 million).

And behind Draw Something are three more Zynga titles: FarmVille with 28.3 million players (down from 29.2 million), CastleVille with 26.8 million (down from 28 million), and Words With Friends with 20.4 million (down from 20.7 million).

Rovio's Facebook release for Angry Birds, moved up the App Leaderboard from #14 to #8 and now has 19.3 million users, compared to 12.8 million players two weeks ago. After dominating mobile app stores, it finally released on the social network a month and a half ago.

Wooga's Diamond Dash grabbed the #9 spot with 18.4 million monthly users (down from 18.7 million), followed by's Bubble Witch Saga (up from 16.7 million) and Electronic Arts' The Sims Social (down from 20 million), which both have 17.9 million players.
