New ADC talks: Scaling services, crossplatform UX in Javascript

New ADC talks: Scaling services, crossplatform UX in Javascript

October 8, 2013 | By Staff

GDC sister event App Developers Conference organizers have announced two new talks added to the November line-up: FitStar on testing and scaling to prevent service outage at launch, and Zimmdot on creating native iOS and Android apps by integrating Javascript.

From the creators of the largest and longest-running game professional-focused Game Developers Conference (GDC), the brand new App Developers Conference (ADC) offers professionals a venue to share their knowledge about building, designing, marketing, and selling their apps. ADC will run November 5th-7th at the Los Angeles Convention Center and will be co-located with GDC Next.

Service outages are bad; service outages during your app launch are much worse. Learn how to estimate traffic, measure service performance, and perform load tests to be ready for anything in a talk titled 'So You Think You Can Scale?' by next-gen mobile fitness platform FitStar co-founder and former director of platform technology at ngmoco:) Dave Grijalva. Grijalva will discuss the tools and techniques used at FitStar to analyze how services will perform before they go live to avoid poor app store ratings and stunted user uptake.

In 'Integrating Cross-Platform Javascript Without Sacrificing a Native User Experience,' Patrick Childers, CTO of software services company Zimmdot (Q.U.B.E. for Wii U, The Ball for OUYA), will discuss how his team used Javascript to create a native experience on both iOS and Android for a medical app for doctors. He'll also cover the advantages and disadvantages of other cross-platform dev solutions, like building in HTML5, and how they decided on their hybrid platform.

These sessions join a number of previously announced talks by Netflix, Pandora, Evernote, and more -- all of which are now available on our expanding interactive Session Scheduler. Recent session additions include Dreamkind on building children's education apps without relying on major brands, and Denim Group on keeping their app users' information secure.

Also of note, ADC organizers recently shared survey results from over 250 app developers on issues they face currently, including piracy and discoverability on app stores. Those interested in the study can view all of the results for free.

Online registration is in full-swing for ADC and the co-located GDC Next; register now and save up to $200 on ADC, GDC Next, or a combined VIP All Access Pass. For all the latest news on ADC, subscribe for updates via Facebook, Twitter, or RSS. Also, check out GDC Next's recently announced talks: Sony Computer Entertainment America's Adam Boyes on new business models and the PS4's "Easy-to-Play" model, and Mind Pirate on its next-gen mobile Callisto platform and wearable tech.

Gamasutra, GDC and ADC are sibling organizations under parent UBM Tech.
