Sony hedges on one of its major PlayStation 4 launch features

October 25, 2013 | By Kris Ligman

Sony has announced that one of its major features for its next-generation console, the PlayStation 4, will not be available at launch.

The suspend/resume mode is now expected to arrive via system update sometime after its November 15th launch date. This feature is meant to allow players to put their games into a low-power standby mode and brought back up at will.

Another interesting note in today's announcements from Sony was the revelation that Blu-ray and DVD playback would require an internet connection for first-time use.

However, a detailed PlayStation Blog update on the launch update does note that the majority of other vaunted features, including remote play, second screen, gameplay broadcast and streaming, and play as you download are included.

Sony has said that it will provide a more complete breakdown of which features will and won't be available at launch, as well as information about a day-one system update, "in the near future."
