Super Mario 3D World
is now available in Japan, and the week-one numbers are in.
According to Famitsu, and as translated by NeoGAF
, Super Mario 3D World
sold 106,967 physical retail copies in its opening week.
Not counting digital eShop sales -- Nintendo has yet to report them -- this would make it the worst retail opening week for a 3D Mario
game in Japan, even losing out to Super Mario 64 DS
which managed 120,062 in its own opening week.
For context, Super Mario 3D Land
's week one sales were the best with 344,698 sold, while Super Mario Galaxy 2
managed 337,569, Super Mario Sunshine
did 280,610, Super Mario Galaxy
saw 256,341 sales, and the original Super Mario 64
sold 162,113 in its opening week.
Of course, these totals do not include digital sales, and as such we don't know exactly how many copies of Super Mario 3D World
were sold via the eShop -- although as we've seen before, Nintendo's digital business is still relatively small
With the launch of Super Mario 3D World
the Wii U saw a boost in hardware sales, up from 14,000 to 20,000 week-over-week.
