China's getting its own free-to-play, online Borderlands

December 8, 2014 | By Christian Nutt

Newsbrief: 2K has announced that it plans to release Borderlands Online in China -- an entirely new game in the franchise developed in partnership with Chinese publisher Shanda.

The title will have both PC and mobile versions, reports Kotaku, though it's as yet unclear if those will be the same game. The game is being developed in Shanghai by a new 2K team, the Kotaku report states.

Activision is taking the same "just for China" tack with Call of Duty Online, developed in China and set to release next year via partner Tencent. Activision management has taken to talking up the potential of that game on recent earnings calls.
