After 20 years, the founder of XNA and Xbox Live leaves Microsoft

December 29, 2014 | By Alex Wawro

Newsbrief: XNA and Xbox Live manager Boyd Multerer has announced his departure from Microsoft this month after working with the company for two decades, first as a contractor and later as a full-time software developer.

Multerer had a hand in many projects during his tenure with the company, and is perhaps best known among game developers for his work leading development of both Xbox Live and the XNA framework.

Though now defunct, the XNA framework and its associated XNA Game Studio development software played a pivotal role in helping indie developers bring their work to home consoles.

Multerer was recognized as one of Game Developer Magazine's Power 50 in 2012 for his contributions to those projects; it's yet unclear whether his next project will be game-related.
