Designing your game with eSport-level play in mind is tricky, but worth considering; many of the top grossing F2P games of 2013 were considered eSports, accounting for $2.85B in revenues.

But successful eSports are driven by a complex ecosystem of developer/publishers, competition organizations, content producers, media buyers, players and spectators. If you want to succeed, you need to understand this stuff.

As part of the GDC Next 2014 Community Summit, Jason Xu -- CEO of eSports management platform Battlefy -- offered developers an informative deep dive into the economics underlying leagues, teams and content creators. He also suggested for encouraging competitive play at both professional and amateur levels.
