3ds Max maker Autodesk is making its first foray into the game engine business this week at GDC in San Francisco, where it expects to demo its upcoming Stingray engine to developers on Wednesday afternoon.

It's not exactly new technology, however; Stingray is built upon the the Bitsquid game engine that was being developed when Bitsquid was acquired by Autodesk last summer.

According to Autodesk, Stingray is designed to permit developers to deploy builds to multiple platforms simultaneously -- including contemporary consoles and mobile hardware. 

The Stingray technology is already being used to develop games like Fatshark's upcoming Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide, and more information (as well as a beta sign-up list) is available to developers via the Autodesk website.
