During GDC week, Sony announced a commercial release date for its virtual reality headset, codenamed Project Morpheus.
Project Morpheus is Sony's PlayStation 4 VR entrant, and is just one of a few notable VR solutions that are rooted in games. Samsung's Gear VR offers a mobile phone-based configuration, while HTC's Vive is PC-based, made in collaboration with Valve's SteamVR.
Facebook-owned Oculus, which kicked off the latest VR trend, is expected to release its headset later this year. Meanwhile, augmented reality such as CastAR and Microsoft's Hololens are in development.
The newest version of the Project Morpheus prototype features a 5.7 inch 1920 X RGB X 1080 resolution OLED display, 120hz refresh rate, improved motion tracking, and lower latency.
Valve Software and Sony are at GDC this week, where we expect further VR news.
