As one of the leading developers for Sony's Project Morpheus VR headset, Sony London is one of the de facto authorities on the state of virtual reality game development.

At GDC Europe 2015, Sony London's John Foster shared some of the studio's big takeaways from trying (and failing repeatedly) to create VR experiences for Morpheus in which players forget they're in a simulated world and act on their instincts.

Using Sony London's Project Morpheus demos like The Getaway, The Deep and The London Heist as examples, Foster discussed practical ways to keep your players immersed in your VR game, how maintaining immersion makes it easier to create a great game, and what new challenges must be overcome.

It was a good, practical talk filled with useful takeaways on a subject that's still being explored; if you missed it in person, you can now watch John Foster's full talk over on the official GDC YouTube channel.

About the GDC Vault

In addition to this presentation, the GDC Vault and its new YouTube channel offers numerous other free videos, audio recordings, and slides from many of the recent Game Developers Conference events, and the service offers even more members-only content for GDC Vault subscribers.

Those who purchased All Access passes to recent events like GDC, GDC Europe, and GDC Next already have full access to GDC Vault, and interested parties can apply for the individual subscription via a GDC Vault subscription page. Group subscriptions are also available: game-related schools and development studios who sign up for GDC Vault Studio Subscriptions can receive access for their entire office or company by contacting staff via the GDC Vault group subscription page. Finally, current subscribers with access issues can contact GDC Vault technical support.
