Android game devs, rejoice: Google Play doubles maximum app size

Android game devs, rejoice: Google Play doubles maximum app size

September 28, 2015 | By Alex Wawro

Google doubled the maximum allowable app size on Google Play this week, raising the limit from 50 to 100 megabytes for APKs (Android application packages) uploaded to the storefront.

This is chiefly aimed at game makers, as a member of the Google Play team notes in a blog post that the limit is being raised to support developers creating higher-quality games and apps for Android devices.

"This means developers can publish APKs up to 100MB in size, and users will see a warning only when the app exceeds the 100MB quota and makes use of Expansion Files," wrote Google's Kobi Glick. "We hope that, in certain circumstances, this file size increase is useful and enables you to build higher quality apps and games."
