The Ship publisher expands into film production

The Ship publisher expands into film production

October 14, 2015 | By Alex Wawro

Scottish indie studio and publisher Blazing Griffin is expanding beyond games this week by forming two new divisions dedicated to film development and post-production work.

It's notable in light of the fact that video game companies rarely try their hand at producing television or film; the reverse is far more common, as media companies cut deals to produce tie-in games and directors like Josef Fares and Guillermo del Toro try to apply their skills to game development.

Blazing Griffin is likely best known as a publisher of indie games like Gentlemen! and The Ship: Murder Party, though it has also developed games like APB: Retribution and the award-nominated Distant Star: Revenant FleetNow, it hopes to extend its work across multiple media formats.

"We want to create worlds — build stories that span games, films, TV, comics and more," stated film producer Naysun Alae-Carew, who will be helping to lead one of the company's new divisions, Blazing Griffin Films.

That division is now working on projects with partners like Vertigo Films and XYZ Films alongside newly-created sister division Blazing Griffin Post.
