Miitomo is Nintendo's first ever smartphone title

October 29, 2015 | By Chris Kerr

Nintendo has made no secret of its desire to tap into mobile market, and now the company has lifted the lid on its first ever smartphone game, Miitomo

Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima unveiled the free-to-play title at a press briefing in Tokyo, and while there's not much information on what gameplay will involve, a translated outline of the conference indicates it won't be to dissimilar to StreetPass in function, letting players create a mobile Mii and communicate with other users.

Although Miitomo was initially due to release in 2015, Kimishima explained that the game is being pushed back to March 2016 in an effort to "further improve the application and to optimize the overall smart device business."

Miitomo's delay won't impact on the release dates of Nintendo's other four mobile titles, with Kimishima adding that the company will have released "approximately five titles by the end of March 2017."

After announcing Miitomo, the new CEO outlined the company's three main objectives for its smart device business, stating that Nintendo is aiming to maximize the number of consumers that have access to its IPs, create a "synergetic effect" on its game dedicated device business, and, of course, boost profits.
