EA and Ubisoft bury the hatchet over trademark 'Ghost'

EA and Ubisoft bury the hatchet over trademark 'Ghost'

February 29, 2016 | By Alex Wawro

Electronic Arts has given up on trying to trademark "Ghost" in the face of formal opposition from Ghost Recon owner Ubisoft.

The pair seem to have settled their differences amicably, as an EA representative told PC Gamer today that "we now have an agreement with Ubisoft to carry on with our respective trademarks."

EA had, of course, been trying to trademark "Ghost" based on the fact that it owns Need for Speed developer Ghost Games (logo pictured), which has had that name since 2012.

NeoGAF had been following the story, and republished court filings from last week showing EA abandoning its attempt to trademark "Ghost" in the realm of "computer game software" with consent from opposer Ubisoft.

The second prong of EA's "Ghost" trademark request (for "entertainment services, namely, providing an on-line computer game") is still a going concern, but seems likely to also be abandoned in the near future.
