Capcom reorganizes to make more mobile games using its popular IP

Capcom reorganizes to make more mobile games using its popular IP

April 1, 2016 | By Alex Wawro

Capcom issued a brief note to investors today about its plans to reorganize and create a new "Mobile Business Division" that will focus on releasing more mobile games featuring popular Capcom game franchises.

Of course Capcom's had its hands in the market for a while now, releasing mobile games from both Capcom and Capcom's wholly-owned subsidiary Beeline Interactive.

But until now, neither hand seemed to pay attention to what the other was doing; going forward, they'll be united under the aegis of the newly-established Mobile Business Division (and Beeline will now be known as Capcom Mobile Co.) and work to "aggressively release titles utilizing the company's popular IP" like Mega Man (pictured) and Monster Hunter.

Games bearing those names tend to do well for Capcom (Monster Hunter games are typically key revenue drivers for the company), so it's perhaps not surprising that the company is aiming to release four mobile games based on its popular brands in the course of its current fiscal year, which ends next March.

The company also intends to bolster its mobile business via "plans to license successful Japanese titles in Asia," though its unclear if that refers to licensing out Capcom properties or developing new mobile games based on non-Capcom licenses.
