Wargaming could create eSports union to protect pro players

April 12, 2016 | By Chris Kerr

World of Tanks creator Wargaming is toying with the idea of creating an eSports union to help protect pro players.

Speaking to MCV’s eSports Pro at the Wargaming.net League Grand Finals, the company’s head of European eSports, Nicolas Passemard, said the dev is "thinking about" creating a union to let pros fairly resolve issues and disputes.

"At a point we have to make a decision, either we get more directly involved or we keep having issues," said Passemard.

"So we looked at some options and the best one is to help the pro players create a union for themselves. We have to do it, there will be issues, maybe we aren't ready [for a players union] but we will find a way."

If the union did become a reality, Wargaming would expect those involved to take charge and create a union run by the players, for the players.

Wargaming would still be on hand to assist with legal advice and security, but maintains that player independence would be paramount.
