Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem apps will be free-to-play

Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem apps will be free-to-play
May 11, 2016 | By Chris Kerr

Earlier this year, Nintendo announced plans to bring Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem to smart devices, and now the company has confirmed both of those apps will be free-to-play.

Speaking to the Wall Street Jounal, DeNA chief executive Isao Moriyasu explained that both titles will be "free-to-start apps." His comments were later endorsed by a Nintendo spokesperson.

The Japanese giant's first mobile effort, Miitomo, which was less of a game and more of a Mii-focused social experience, was also free-to-play.

When it was revealed Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem would be getting the mobile treatment, Nintendo explained it planned to create "pure gaming applications" this time around.

At the time, Nintendo made no mention of how it would monetize either game, but did say it's aiming to fill its mobile roster with "multiple types of apps that appeal to different audiences and different groups of players."

Aside from Miitomo, and the unnamed Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem apps, Nintendo plans to release two more mobile apps with the help of DeNA before March 2017.
