Perfect World steps in to rescue and publish Motiga's MOBA, Gigantic

Perfect World steps in to rescue and publish Motiga's MOBA, Gigantic
May 11, 2016 | By Christian Nutt

Today Motiga CEO Chris Chung announced via a blog post that Chinese publisher Perfect World has stepped in to the publishing role on Gigantic, rescuing the MOBA from further staff downsizing.

Chung has been very candid about the game's development, and opened up about layoffs in December 2015 and February 2016.

"Our financial situation is such that we are unable to continue supporting the entirety of the studio at this time," Chung wrote in February.

Today, the tone is more positive: "This partnership is a huge step for Motiga, as it allows us to continue working towards realizing the vision the development team had for Gigantic -- a great competitive online game. Even more so, it accelerates opportunities for Gigantic by having more resources available to us," Chung wrote.

The game is still due for both Xbox One and PC.

Motiga was originally co-founded by former NCsoft West CEO Chung and Sony Online Entertainment veteran Rick Lambright as a mobile game studio. The company pivoted toward the PC and console space in 2014 with Gigantic, after receiving funding from China's NetEase and Korea's SmileGate.
