HTC targets commercial sector with $1200 Vive Business Edition

HTC targets commercial sector with $1200 Vive Business Edition

June 9, 2016 | By Chris Kerr

HTC wants to drive commercial uses of virtual reality with a new iteration of its Vive headset aimed squarely at businesses.

Dubbed the Vive Business Edition (Vive BE), the new $1200 version of the Steam VR-powered headset will, according to HTC, let "individuals and organizations order systems with additional services adapted for business and commercial environments."

Like the $799 consumer edition, The BE package will include a Vive VR headset, two controllers, and a pair of base stations, but will also ship with a Vive 3-in-1 cable, and four Vive BE face cushions.

On top of that, the BE will notably come with commercial licensing, access to a dedicated Business Edition customer support line, and a 12-month limited warranty.

"With Vive BE, we are answering the overwhelming demand from global industries for a complete VR experience, to provide innovative solutions for their business needs,” said Daniel O'Brien, VP of virtual reality at HTC.

"Expediting the growth of partner organizations through application of Vive technology is an incredibly important part of our ongoing VR strategy, and will ensure Vive continues to be at the forefront of the enterprise sector."

The Vive BE will launch in the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, and the UK this month. Businesses will also be able to buy the device in bulk.
