Xbox One mouse and keyboard support only 'months away'

Xbox One mouse and keyboard support only 'months away'

Xbox chief Phil Spencer says that keyboard and mouse support for the Xbox One is only a matter of "months away."

Speaking to PCGamesN, Spencer revealed that keyboards already work on consoles in dev kit mode, and although mouse support isn't quite there yet, it won't be long until the creases have been ironed out.

"Truthfully in our dev kit modes now keyboard works, mouse support is a little bit further away," said Spencer. "I say it because I know it’s not years away, it's more like months away, but we don’t have an exact date yet."

The feature might not seem revolutionary to some, but it would go some way to helping Microsoft fulfill its ambition of bridging the gap between its console and PC ecosystems -- which was one of the company's biggest talking points at this year's E3.

"[Try] to take League of Legends and play it with a controller. I don't know, maybe a designer’s going to try and tackle that problem, but those seem like natural PC games to me," added the Xbox boss.

"When we enable PC and mouse on console it'll be interesting to see how many of those creators think about running their PC and mouse-only game on console, and then this idea of Play Anywhere might get even more interesting."
