More: VR, VRDC

The first-ever standalone Virtual Reality Developers Conference is happening next week, so today organizers want to quickly let you know about more of the great sponsored sessions from leading innovators that you should check out at the show.

We're talking about cutting-edge companies like Google, Qualcomm and Microsoft sponsoring excellent in-depth talks about everything from where VR is now to where it's going -- and how developers can make the most of it.

For example, Microsoft's talk on "Seizing the Mixed Reality Revolution - Lessons Learned Developing for Microsoft HoloLens" by René Schulte (Director of Immersive Experiences, IdentityMine / Valorem) promises to be both insightful and useful.

After all, devices like the Microsoft HoloLens are turning science fiction movie technology into reality. Through live code demos, you will leave this session understanding the building blocks needed to create a compelling HoloLens application. Schulte will demonstrate some of the apps he's worked on, and share how he was able to overcome challenges. His best practices and recommendations will help you avoid pit falls, and show you how to get started on your own mixed reality apps.

Also, Google engineer Jared Finder will be delivering a sponsored session on "Smartphone AR, Tango, and You." This is intriguing because over the last year, small teams at Google have built more than 75 VR experiments. In this rapid-fire talk, Finder will give a quick review of some of Google's top lessons and cover the freshest ideas to emerge from their rapid prototyping team.

So come learn about some of the most promising VR use cases that Google is looking at and check out how they continue to explore new ideas, week after week.

And don't miss "Profiling VR Games and Applications for Optimum Performance", a Qualcomm-sponsored session presented by Qualcomm's Kevin Hawkins. In this talk, you'll learn how to improve power and thermal efficiency while achieving maximum performance for your VR game or app. Analyze and optimize your VR games and applications by exposing detailed CPU, GPU, and system data to reveal your game's power and performance characteristics.

In addition, you'll come to better understand how other apps or background processes may be impacting performance, giving you a complete picture of system performance.

So head over to the VRDC website now and register to attend the conference, which will feature a plethora of great VR/AR talks spanning games, entertainment, and beyond into subjects such as healthcare, journalism, travel, manufacturing, retail, live events, real estate, training, and so much more.

And if you have a great tool, service, product, or platform that enables developers to create innovative VR/AR experiences, you can contact [email protected] or visit UBM's VRDC Sponsorships hub to learn how to become a VRDC sponsor!

VRDC 2016 will take place November 2-3 at the Park Central Hotel in San Francisco. For more information on VRDC 2016, visit the show's official website and subscribe to regular updates via Twitter and Facebook.
