Abertay University in Dundee, Scotland will be recognizing a few notable folks with honorary degrees next Friday, including veteran game industry musician Rob Hubbard.

The fact that Hubbard is being awarded an honorary doctorate of music is a bit of a big deal because, as the BBC reports, the honor is being conferred based on his lifetime of work as a video game composer and musician.

Hubbard is best known for his prodigous work in the '80s on a wide range of games (everything from Crazy Comets to Sanxion), the lion's share of which debuted on the Commodore 64.

In the late '80s he joined up with Electronic Arts and contributed to everything from Skate or Die for the Commodore 64 to Desert Strike for the Sega Genesis. Though now retired, he had a long career contributing to game projects at EA while also producing his own music.
