Video: Moving past your failures in game development

December 20, 2016 | By Staff

Failure. It's something everyone experiences and nobody likes to talk about, especially on a stage in front of a room full of peers.

At GDC 2016 a handful of experienced developers did just that, and it was a fantastic talk. Chaim Gingold, Joe Mirabello and Paul Kilduff-Taylor spoke candidly about failures, getting through their struggles and learning from the experience.

It was a talk worth watching: Gingold discussed getting lost in a small indie project. Mirabello shared his experience with post-release blues after the well-received Tower of Guns and how he had never felt more like a failure then in the wake of sudden success. Kilduff-Taylor, for his part, spoke earnestly about the failure of Frozen Cortex's futuristic sports game concept.

Together they laid out how you as a game maker can move past failures, avoid the prototype-hell situation and never lose sight of what players actually want out of your work.

It was a great talk, and you can now watch it for free over on the GDC Vault's official YouTube channel!
