Writing dialogue for your game that's both accessible in a non-linear fashion and consistently meaningful is tricky, no matter how you slice it.
CD Projekt Red managed to pull it off with its sprawling open-world RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and at GDC 2016 CDPR's Piotr Tomsinski took the stage to explain how it was done.
If you missed it in person, know that Tomsinski's talk offered deep insight into how The Witcher 3's dialogue system works. He also demonstrated the studio's production pipeline, tools and editor, touched upon animation problems encountered during production, and provide dapplicable solutions via a step-by-step walkthrough.
The talk was highly informative, and now you have the opportunity to go back and watch it for free on the official GDC YouTube channel!
In addition to this presentation, the GDC Vault and its new YouTube channel offers numerous other free videos, audio recordings, and slides from many of the recent Game Developers Conference events, and the service offers even more members-only content for GDC Vault subscribers.
Those who purchased All Access passes to recent events like GDC, GDC Europe, and GDC Next already have full access to GDC Vault, and interested parties can apply for the individual subscription via a GDC Vault subscription page. Group subscriptions are also available: game-related schools and development studios who sign up for GDC Vault Studio Subscriptions can receive access for their entire office or company by contacting staff via the GDC Vault group subscription page. Finally, current subscribers with access issues can contact GDC Vault technical support.
