505 signs on to publish OtherSide's upcoming RPG Underworld Ascendant

August 17, 2017 | By Alex Wawro

Game publisher 505 Games confirmed today that it has cut a deal with Massachusetts-based indie outfit OtherSide Entertainment to publish the studio's upcoming RPG Underworld Ascendant on PC next year.

The project is, notably, a spiritual successor to the venerable Ultima Underworld games developed by Blue Sky Productions/Looking Glass Studios in the early '90s.

OtherSide was cofounded three years ago by experienced Ultima developer Paul Neurath specifically to make Ascendant, and ran a successful Kickstarter campaign that topped out in 2015 at just over $860,000.

The studio has since picked up a coterie of former Ultima devs, including Ultima producer (and veteran game designer) Warren Spector, who is currently leading production on System Shock 3 from the studio's Austin branch.

Incidentally, earlier this year global game publisher Starbreeze invested $12 million into OtherSide as part of a publishing deal for System Shock 3
