Microsoft has officially discontinued the original model of the Xbox One, just under four years after first launching the hardware.
According to Glixel, Microsoft quietly stopped manufacturing the original version of the console after the smaller Xbox One S was released in August of 2016. Now, one year later, Microsoft has stopped carrying the system in its online store outside of refurbished systems.
The official discontinuation notably falls just two short months before Microsoft launches the Xbox One X, a souped-up mid-generation hardware update it has been hyping up for a little over a year now.
While the Xbox One S boasts the same performance as the now defunct Xbox One, the Xbox One X is entering the market as a more powerful hardware option capable of handling both better visuals and performance in Xbox One games.
