Inception Director Christopher Nolan said today that he and the team behind the chart-topping summer movie Inception were examining the possibility of a video game based on the film.

"We are looking at ... developing a video game based on the world of the film, which has all kinds of ideas that you can't fit into a feature film," Nolan said at a press conference accompanying the movie's premiere in Rome today, as reported by Variety.

"That's something we've been talking about and are looking at doing long term, in a couple of years," he continued.

The title Nolan hinted at today isn't the first game-related project surrounding Inception. Mind Crime, a maze game made using the Unity 3D game engine, launched in late 2009 as a form of viral marketing for the film.

The game has attracted over 14,000 fans on Facebook and a small community of dedicated players that continue to create mazes for the game.

Nolan isn't the only film director to express an interest in the video game realm of late -- Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo Del Toro has reportedly signed on with THQ to develop a cross-media property that will include a video game component, one of many wider transmedia initiatives THQ is visibly pursuing with film and TV companies.

Inception has grossed over $753 million in worldwide ticket sales, Warner Bros. announced today.
