Netflix hints at move into publishing with Stranger Things: The Game

Netflix hints at move into publishing with Stranger Things: The Game

October 4, 2017 | By Chris Kerr

Netflix surprised Stranger Things fans today when it unexpectedly dropped a free-to-play mobile game based on the hit television series.

Predictably, the game is a retro-inspired action adventure effort that reimagines the show's first season as a classic 16-bit offering.

It's developed by BonusXP, which has previously created a handful of mobile titles like Monster Crew and The Incorruptibles

As for the publisher? Curiously, that'd be none other than Netflix itself, which could suggest the streaming juggeraut is turning its attention towards the world of video games.

Or, with the launch of the show's second season on the horizon, it could just be a one-time promotional deal that means absolutely nothing.

But until we know for sure, it's worth keeping tabs on the situation. After all, this isn't the first time the company has dabbled in games, and it wouldn't be crazy to suggest that a huge media firm like Netflix would be keen to tap into the video game market. Stranger things have happened.
