Pokemon game series surpasses 300M lifetime sales

Pokemon game series surpasses 300M lifetime sales

November 24, 2017 | By Chris Kerr

The generation-spanning Pokemon series of games has now sold over 300 million units worldwide.

The Pokemon Company broke the news to Famitsu (via JapaneseNintendo.com), and explained that hefty figure doesn't even include downloaded copies or free-to-play titles like Pokemon Go

The long-running video game franchise was born all the way back in 1996 with the release of Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue on the Game Boy -- the latter of which was called Pokemon Green in Japan.

It quickly amassed a fervent following, thanks in part to the massive popularity of the anime series, and has become one of Nintendo's biggest franchises.

The latest games in the series, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, launched earlier this month for the Nintendo 3DS.
