Nintendo brings Wii and GameCube titles to Nvidia Shield in China

December 5, 2017 | By Chris Kerr

Nintendo is bringing a smorgasbord of its older titles, including New Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Galaxy, and Twilight Princess, to China through the Nvidia Shield tablet console.

A Chinese Nvidia Shield trailer posted on Twitter by industry analyst Daniel Ahmad shows the system running various Wii and GameCube titles, while the Nvidia website confirms the games are 1080p remasters.

It's a notable move for both companies, as (smartphone games aside) Nintendo hasn't generally made its games available on non-Nintendo hardware -- let alone first-party properties like Mario and Zelda.

The Shield itself launched in China today and is currently retailing for $226, with each remaster going for around $10. Right now, it looks as if the partnership is a China-only deal, so it doesn't look like Shield owners in the West will be able to get in on the action.

Of course, this isn't the first time Nintendo and Nvidia have collaborated, and some of you might recall that the Switch is actually powered by Nvidia tech

More specifically, the Switch was brought to life using some of the same tech seen in the Nvidia shield, including a custom version of the Tegra processor. It's no surprise, given the two systems are portable tablets, but it's an interesting tidbit nonetheless.
