Entertainment outfit Nordisk Film has acquired a minority stake in Heroes & Generals developer Reto Moto for $5 million.

The Danish studio was established back in 2008 by the original founders of Kane & Lynch and Hitman developer IO Interactive.

The company develops and operates freemium first-person shooter Heroes & Generals, which currently has over 12 million registered players worldwide.

Nordisk Film says its partnership with Reto Moto is part of a wider plan to invest in the Nordic game scene.

Indeed, this is the fourth such investment from the company's Nordisk Film Games unit, with the firm previously acquiring minority stakes in Flashbulb Games, Multiverse, and Just Cause creator Avalanche Games.

"Reto Moto is an experienced and well-run game studio with a huge appetite for growth. Heroes & Generals is an ambitious online game combining a first person shooter, character progression mechanics, and unique elements of the strategy genre," said Mikkel Weider, MD of Nordisk Film Games.

"The studio is founded and run by some of the best game developers in the world. It fits our portfolio perfectly, and we are thrilled to be working with them in developing the company further."
