Animoca Brands buys Finnish mobile studio Tribeflame for $433K

February 7, 2018 | By Chris Kerr

Hong Kong-based publisher Animoca Brands has acquired Finnish mobile studio Tribeflame in a deal worth up to €350,000 ($433,000).

The move will see Animoca, which recently sold off its entire mobile game catalog, take complete control of the developer and its various game licenses and subsidiaries

That includes the popular Benji Banana's franchise, which currently boasts around 1.5 million monthly active users, and has pulled in €2.25 million ($2.77 million) in lifetime revenue from over 107 million downloads.

Tribeflame is the second Finnish game company acquired by Animoca Brands, following the purchase of TicBits in July 2016.

Moving forward, Tribeflame will co-locate with TicBits to enhance Animoca's development capability in Finland, and will step up as the lead developer on the company's upcoming tower defense title, Crazy Defense Heroes.

Tribeflame co-founders Torulf Jernström and Marcus Alanen will also be joining Animoca as part of the deal.
