Facebook has announced that it has expanded its partnership with ad network TrialPay
for its DealSpot product, which allows users to earn virtual currency by watching videos embedded within a number of social game titles.
These videos will allow users to earn Facebook Credits, the platform's official virtual currency, that they can spend in a number of social titles to purchase in-game goods such as outfits or items.
According to Facebook, these ad-supported deals will help users become familiar with Credits and ease them into using virtual currency, reports developer blog Inside Facebook
To initiate these deals within a game that supports DealSpot, users will click on specifically labeled icons, launching a video within the game itself. Once the video finishes playing, Credits will be added to the users' accounts.
A number of companies have already signed on to provide videos for DealSpot, including Sharethrough, EpicSocial, SocialVibe, and SupersonicAds.
As of July 1, 2011, Facebook will make all app developers use Facebook Credits. As of now, roughly 550 games use the platform's official currency.
