Zuckerberg: Other Industries Need To Follow Social Gaming's Example

May 26, 2011 | By Mike Rose

Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has stated that he hopes other industries will follow the example of the gaming industry and "become more social".

Speaking at the eG8 forum in Paris this week, and reported by PaidContent, Zuckerberg noted that Facebook is not looking to offer music and movie services in the same way it has provided a huge social space for gaming.

However, he said that these industries need to look to transform via social media, and praised social gaming giants Zynga and Playfish for "baking the principles of social design".

"Were going to see a lot of the transformation in these industries over the next three, five years that we have with gaming so far," he explained.

"The gaming industry has been completely transformed. Social gaming has taken off from scratch, and the biggest companies in the gaming industry are now social games companies."

"People listen to music with friends, you read news and discuss it with friends. These industries can be rebuilt from the ground up with social. The opportunities when you make these companies social are a lot bigger than they are in their current form," he concluded.

Earlier in the month, Facebook announced that it has expanded its partnership with ad network TrialPay for its DealSpot product, which allows users to earn virtual currency by watching videos embedded within a number of social game titles.
