Uncharted Movie Loses Director David O. Russell

Uncharted Movie Loses Director David O. Russell

May 26, 2011 | By Frank Cifaldi

Film director David O. Russell (I Heart Huckabees, The Fighter) will no longer be directing the film adaptation of Sony Computer Entertainment's Uncharted, reportedly leaving due to creative differences.

The film is still underway, reports Variety, with Sony said to have already begun its search for a new director. Variety also reports that the split was "amicable."

Russell's version of Uncharted cast actor Mark Wahlberg in the starring role, with Robert Deniro and Joe Pesci targeted for supporting roles. The actors may be walking away from the project with Russell, with Variety saying that casting "will likely start from scratch."

The film's script was written by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly, who previously collaborated on Sahara, A Sound of Thunder and the upcoming Conan.

Sony's Uncharted 2 has sold over 3.5 million copies, and was Sony Computer Entertainment's fastest-selling title ever.

Uncharted 3 is expected this November. Learn more about the game in this Gamasutra interview.
