Kinect-Enabled Minecraft Coming Exclusively To Xbox 360

June 6, 2011 | By Frank Cifaldi

The Xbox 360 will be the only home console with a version of the popular PC game Minecraft, Microsoft announced Monday morning.

Originally developed for PC by indie Swedish studio Mojang, Minecraft for the Xbox 360 will be Kinect-enabled, the company said, allowing gesture and voice controls for the game, which is meant to encourage creativity and world building.

The news comes as part of a larger commitment of popular franchises incorporating Kinect, including Mass Effect 3, Star Wars and all future titles in Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's franchise.

While the game has not been confirmed for Xbox rival PlayStation 3, affiliated joint venture Sony Ericsson will officially announce that Minecraft will be coming to the Xperia Play smartphone.

Minecraft will be available on the Xbox 360 this winter, Microsoft said.
