Monthly User Decline For Popular Facebook Games CityVille, Empires & Allies

Monthly User Decline For Popular Facebook Games CityVille, Empires & Allies

July 18, 2011 | By Eric Caoili

[Every other week, we examine the most popular Facebook games (according to monthly active users), looking at the top titles and developers on the social network to see who's attracting or losing players.]

A month and a half after its launch, Zynga's Empires & Allies' rapid growth seems to have finally cooled, as its monthly active user numbers dropped from 52 million last week to now 48.4 million. The turn-based strategy title is still the second most popular game on Facebook.

The most popular game and app on the social network is still Zynga's CityVille, but that, too, has seen its playerbase diminish lately. The Sim City-style game went from a population of 87 million users last week to now 80.9 million -- well below its peak of 100+ million earlier this year.

Facebook's third most popular game is Zynga's FarmVille, now at 37 million players, less .8 million from last week. Texas HoldEm Poker at #4 seems to have suffered the least out of the popular Zynga games, as it lost only half a million in the past two weeks and has 35 million users.

Pokemon-esque social game Monster Galaxy from Gaia Online at #5 is at 15.4 million users (down from 18.8 million two weeks ago), followed by Disney/Playdom's Gardens of Time with 15.4 million, Zynga's FrontierVille with 12.9 million, and and Zynga's Cafe World with 11.5 million.

PopCap's Bejeweled Blitz is #9 with 10.8 million, and Wooga's Diamond Dash takes #10 with 10.2 milion. Beyond the top ten, significant movements include Wooga's Monster World climbing two spots to #13 (8.6 million), and CrowdStar's It Girl climbing back into the list at #17 (7.8 million).
