Tiny Tower, Dead Space Lead Apple's Game Of The Year Picks

December 9, 2011 | By Tom Curtis

With 2011 coming to a close, Apple has announced its iOS games of the year, granting the U.S. game of the year awards to NimbleBit's Tiny Tower on iPhone and EA's Dead Space on iPad.

Runners up for the iPhone category included Andreas Illiger's Tiny Wings and Illusion Labs' Touchgrind BMX, while Chillingo's Contre Jour HD and Capy's Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP filled out the winners for the iPad category.

As of this writing, all six winning titles have their very own featured spots in the Games section of the iTunes App Store, giving them some extra exposure during the holiday season.

Outside of the U.S., Apple's game of they year picks were a bit different. For instance, Tiny Wings on iPhone and Real Racing 2 on iPad led the winners in Australia, with runners up including Dead Space on iPad, Tiny Tower on iPhone, and Halfbrick's universal app Jetpack Joyride.

In Europe, Tiny Wings was the winner on iPhone, with Tiny Tower and To-Fu 2 as runners up. Meanwhile, Contre Jour HD led the iPad winners, followed by Shadowgun and Gesundheit HD.

Last year, Apple's U.S. game of the year picks went to PopCap's Plants Vs. Zombies on iPhone and Hemisphere Games' Osmos on iPad.
