Fathammer has launched the commercial version of its X-Forge 3D game engine for mobile devices. X-Forge is a cross-platform suite of APIs optimized for the technology, form factor and configurations of mobile devices. The game engine consists of an SDK and a suite of development tools which can support publisher-defined distribution and billing methods, including traditional retail distribution, OEM bundling (including embedded games) and distribution via wireless operators, portals and the web. Games created with X-Forge can also contain features which enable game content downloads, high score uploading, and messaging.

The company says that X-Forge can support Symbian OS, Microsoft Pocket PC and Smartphone 2002, Mobile Linux and other mobile operating systems, but that the initial release focuses on Symbian OS support including Nokia Series 60 and the Sony Ericsson P800 Smartphone. Two X-Forge-powered games, Stunt Run and Men in Black II: Alien Pursuit will be included with the retail launch of the Sony Ericsson P800 Smartphone.

Pricing information was not disclosed.
