Japan has finally seen its holiday buying season enter full bloom with a week of sales that equates to 185.50% of the weekly average. Only two titles were left in the top ten chart from last week with Sony’s own Hot Shots Golf 4
(aka Everybody’s Golf 4
) leading the charge and managing to sell twice as much as its predecessor with 264,000 units.
Sales of above 100,000 are usually expected for any number one title in Japan and this week the top four titles all managed to sell over this amount.
In terms of hardware sales the Xbox’s sudden surge in popularity last week, after a significant price cut, is proving short lived with this week’s sales accounting for only 2.12% of the market, compared to 6.98% previously. PS2 sales were also down a few percentage points at 45.41%, with the GameCube remaining almost static at 18.16% and combined Game Boy Advance sales up at 33.85%.
